·       Graham Nash of The Hollies and Crosby Stills & Nash was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire on Queen Elizabeth’s birthday honors list.  The O-B-E medal is a high British honor bestowed by the Queen.

 

 

·        Bob Gaudio, keyboard player and songwriter with The Four Seasons, splits his time between homes in Los Angeles and Nashville.  

 

 

Mary Wilson of The Supremes was quite the party girl in the 60s.  She claims she had an affair with actor Steve McQueen after the two met at a Hollywood party.

Another Beach Boys book is in the works.  Author Jon Stebbins is writing a Beach Boys version of his popular F-A-Q, Frequently Asked Questions, series.  He’ll include history and trivia on The Beach Boys in the 400-plus page book. 

 

Rolling Stone magazine’s so-called “panel of experts” has named Aretha Franklin the greatest singer of the rock era. Ray Charles came in second. Elvis was third on the list, followed by Sam Cooke, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding and James Brown. 

Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & Papas isn’t looking for any acting work right now. Michelle says, “I’m living a really nice life right now. If a great part comes along, I’ll go back to work. But at this point, I’m certainly not stressing over it.” 

·         John Lennon fans are being asked to send birthday wishes and recordings for a time capsule to be opened on his 100th birthday.  John would have been 70 this year. 

·         Keith Richards has no interest in a movie career – even though he appeared in the final Pirates Of The Caribbean film.  Keith’s only agreed to the role because of his friendship with Johnny Depp.  But, Keith says if someone tells him he’s “the only guy that can play this role, he might act again. 

·         Aretha Franklin fell at her home in Detroit August 1st breaking two ribs.  She had to cancel 2 concerts in Brooklyn. 

·         The Grass Roots lead singer Rob Grill is recovering from a collapsed lung and pneumonia.  He missed a Grass Roots show at Hippiefest in Daytona, Florida.


 

·         Bobby Hebb died of lung cancer August 3rd in a Nashville hospital.  Bobby toured with The Beatles in 1966 when he had his top 10 hit Sunny.

 

·         Beach Boy Brian Wilson and his wife Melinda recently adopted another child, Dakota Rose Wilson.
